MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Continued growth at a Maquoketa manufacturer likely means more new jobs than expected when a hiring initiative was announced last year.

Last year, officials from HUSCO International announced plans to add 35 people to the workforce at the Maquoketa plant, which produces hydraulic control systems for agricultural and industrial equipment.

“Since that time, we have added approximately 50 new hires to the Maquoketa facility,” said Gary Strand, the company’s vice president of human resources. “And we’re not done yet.”

Company officials expect to add “approximately 20 more” workers, bringing the total workforce to about 130 people.

The positions primarily are mechanical assemblers and material handlers. Starting pay is $11 to $12 per hour, with a full benefits package and opportunities for advancement, Strand said.

HUSCO International employs 1,400 people worldwide and operates domestic manufacturing facilities in Maquoketa and two in Wisconsin. The continued hiring is due to an uptick in demand and consolidation of some processes, Strand said. (full article…)
