Antique shop and bar opens in Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA, Iowa — An old cigar shop in downtown Maquoketa has found a new, dual life as a bar and antique store.

Farmer’s Creek Antiques & Mac’s Wine Cellar recently opened at 144 S. Main St. in Maquoketa.

“There is a lot of history in the building, and we restored it down to every last detail,” said owner and operator Sue Mayberry.

Mayberry said her family has owned the property since 1991 and primarily used it for storage.

The family was inspired to make improvements to the building after seeing the impact of Maquoketa’s $4 million streetscape project, which upgraded downtown streets, sidewalks and utilities.
