Downtown Incentives

(Preston, IA) - The City of Preston, in partnership with the Jackson County Economic Alliance, is announcing the establishment of a downtown incentive initiative.

Eligible projects for this program include facade and/or interior renovation, upper story renovation, additions, leasehold improvements, and/or acquisition of commercial property in the downtown district. Projects must compliment the vision of a revitalized downtown.

There are seven elements to the downtown incentive program. They include:

Acquisition Assistance

Signage

Commercial Interior

Consultant Assistance

Facade

Upper Story Renovation

Conversion of First Floor Residential to Commercial

It is possible to apply for multiple incentive elements.

Nic Hockenberry, Jackson County Economic Alliance Director stated, “Downtowns are the heart of a community. People often judge the health of a community by the health of their downtown, so it is critical to have an attractive and inviting downtown district.”

“I encourage all downtown property owners to investigate and take advantage of these new programs. These funds can help restore wonderful structures and create new vitality in our downtown.” said Mayor Richard Betts.

These incentives can be used in conjunction with the low interest loan program offered by all Jackson County banks. This loan program currently offers a 4.9 percent interest rate for downtown projects.

The Jackson County Economic Alliance and the City of Preston are hosting an informational meeting about this new program on June 18th at 6 PM at the Kunau Building, 4 N Elliot St. All downtown property owners and renters are encouraged to attend to learn more about these opportunities to enhance the downtown area.
