Betterment Corp. hosts fact-finding meeting

Members of Maquoketa Betterment Corp. last week hosted a fact-finding meeting in Des Moines.

The corporation, which seeks to promote business development in Maquoketa, met with Gov. Terry Branstad and several State of Iowa department heads. Group members visited the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Cultural Affairs, Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Finance Authority.

The focus of the trip was to make connections and develop relationships in the interest of finding funding opportunities for downtown revitalization, according to a press release from group President Chuck Current.

Joining Current in Des Moines were Maquoketa City Manager Brian Wagner; Dave Heiar, director of Jackson County Economic Alliance; Nicolas Hockenberry, assistant director of Jackson County Economic Alliance; and John Gronen, of Gronen Properties.
