Preston, IA - Easton Valley will receive nearly $200,000 beginning the 2016-2017 school year through the Teacher Leadership Compensation grant from the Department of Education. This is a state funded program available to all schools and has been awarded to one third of them each year for the past three years. This funding will continue until the Iowa Legislature decides to end it. The program provides teachers the opporutnity to play leadership roles in district-wide decisions affecting curriculum, professional development improvement of instruction in the classroom.

TLC program goals include making teaching in Iowa more attractive for top college graduates and retain effective teachers by improving their career oppotunities. This is done through increasing compensation for teachers assuming decision-making and leadership roles. The premise of the program is that teachers and schools can learn from each other.

Easton Valley goals include improving studnet growth and achievement by using the additonal funds to compensate teachers for their involvement in professional development, coaching and mentoring each other, sharin gbest practices, to attract able and promising new teachers while retaining the most effective teachers through this increased involvement and compensation.
