BELLEVUE, Iowa -- Fifteen months ago, Jacynda Smith was a hairstylist working out of a donated garage behind Water Street Market.

Today, the 38-year-old finds herself at the helm of a Bellevue startup looking toward further expansion.

Sales have grown enough that the business, which began with seven employees, now employs 30.

"It's been surreal," Smith said. "I'm surprised by how fast it has all happened, but it's rewarding to see how confident women are ... and how great their hair looks."

Smith developed the idea for a new, flat-iron hair-styling product in 2012. The Tyme Iron boasts that it curls hair from top to bottom, speeding up the hair-styling process and cutting down on the number of styling tools needed to get longer, fasting-forming curls.

The irons have been featured on national shows such as "The Today Show" and "The Steve Harvey Show" and will be featured in style magazine articles set to hit newsstands later this spring.

The company now operates from a large warehouse on the north side of town where the irons are stored before being shipped to customers. The irons are made in South Korea.

The business has rolled out new products and is working on a shampoo and hair care line. (full article…)
