MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Seven Maquoketa High School students dressed in shades of red and pink crowded into Bob Stockham’s living room on Wednesday.

As Stockham stood to listen, the group launched into a medley of love songs.

“I bet this took a lot of practice,” he later told the students.

Members of the school’s chamber choir spent Valentine’s Day delivering singing valentines to local residents. The effort served as a fundraiser for the school’s vocal department.

The opportunity also was meaningful for the students who participated.

“It’s more rewarding when we know our performance is creating an emotional benefit for people,” said senior Spencer Owen.

Sixteen chamber choir members divided up into two groups to deliver the valentines, stopping at various homes and businesses as they completed their routes. (full article)
