DUBUQUE, Iowa—The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD) is excited to announce The Wellmark Foundation has awarded a $65,000 Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) grant for the Kids in Dubuque Skate (KIDS) skate park project, a project fund managed by the CFGD.

The $800,000 project is part of a 13-year effort of a group of local community members with a dream to build a new skate park in Dubuque. The grant has allowed the KIDS to exceed its $200,000 fundraising challenge from the City of Dubuque. The city committed $600,000 towards the project in 2014, provided the group could raise the remaining funds.

The new skate park will be located at Flora Park and will offer skate features and additional park amenities.

“This grant ensures that Dubuque will have a premier concrete outdoor skatepark for both beginners, experienced skaters and action sports enthusiasts,” said KIDS President Laura Bies. “We are grateful to The Wellmark Foundation and all our other generous donors who have made this dream a reality.”

“The Wellmark Foundation is proud to support this project that encourages physical activity now, and for generations to come,” said Becky Wampler, executive director of The Wellmark Foundation.

This project is also a part of the Grant Wood Loop, the State of Iowa's Parks to People pilot region including Jackson, Jones and Dubquue counties.

Groundbreaking is planned for this summer with an anticipated completion by Fall 2018.
