In Jackson County, manufacturing tour displays opportunities that await in industry

MAQUOKETA, Iowa — As a three-sport athlete, Bellevue High School junior Harrison Haynes knows the value of being part of a good team.

On Tuesday morning, the football, wrestling and baseball player paid a visit to Dynamic Tube Inc. in Maquoketa, where he observed how teamwork translates to the workplace.

“It is interesting to get inside and see how everything works,” Harrison said. “It is not about any one individual. It is about the collaboration. That was something that definitely connected with me and my life ”

He was one of about 60 Bellevue High School students who toured Dynamic Tube on Tuesday, held during Jackson County Manufacturing Week. The event, organized by Jackson County Economic Alliance, raises awareness about the impact of local manufacturing.

The week also includes tours or open houses at Maquoketa businesses Jackson Manufacturing, Precision Metal Works and A and P Graphics and Signs, as well as Rockwell Collins in Bellevue and Plastics Unlimited in Preston.

Students from Bellevue, Maquoketa and Marquette Catholic high schools will attend the tours.

The Advanced Manufacturing Center at Clinton Community College’s Maquoketa High School facility also will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Anyone can attend and pre-registration is not required.

“I think these types of events are really important for these facilities,” said Stephanie Sagers, of the alliance. “It gives the students a chance to hear directly from the businesses, to see what they are doing in person. And it gives the companies a chance to connect with the students and educate them about the skills needed to work there.”(full article)
