Camryn Reeg and Rebecca Schroeder were destined to do great things together.

As neighbors in Bellevue, Iowa, the two became close friends as children. That’s when the 2018 Telegraph Herald Scholar-Athletes began developing the traits needed to succeed both academically and athletically for the Comets.

“We’ve been great friends and teammates since third grade,” Schroeder said. “As we got closer, we’d go to each other’s houses and do what kids do: play games, dance and play sports. We’re similar in a lot of ways. We’re both competitive and want to succeed and you see that in the classroom and on the court. Sometimes we’re almost too competitive, even against each other, but that’s only made us better.”

The pair have done just about everything for the Comets. Reeg and Schroeder each held 4.0 grade point averages, earned numerous scholarships, and both hold program records along in reaching the state level and combining for 31 varsity athletic letters.

“We grew up together and have this really special bond,” Reeg said. “I’ve always admired Becca’s ability to really overpower anybody. She’s truly a player that a lot of teams fear, I think. It’s fun to see both sides of her: the dominating player and the kind, fun friend. It’s great to see how far we’ve come and to see us both going to school in Dubuque.”

Through all their accomplishments at Bellevue, the duo is going to try and keep it going this fall at the collegiate level. Reeg is attending Loras College to run cross country and track, while Schroeder will be playing volleyball at Clarke University. (Full Article)
